the honeymooners

After the whirlwind of the wedding, Kevin and I set out for a relaxing week in the Dominican Republic.

We went parasailing (which was terrifying), ate way too much food, watched spanish tv, soaked up a lot of sun, and somehow got $300 stolen from our wallets in the process. Despite the theft, we had a wonderful time in a beautiful place!

gadgets, gifts, and guitars

Gadgets: Our Tool & Gadget Party was last weekend and it was so much fun! Sweet friends and family showered us with more tools and gadgets than we could ever need. I see some pinterest projects on the horizon. All of the love and support of the people who came means so much to us!

Gifts: A lot of people despise Valentine's Day, which I can understand. But it's an excuse to eat a lot of chocolate and write love letters, so obviously I'm a fan.

Guitars: Yesterday I took some pictures for my sweet friend, and we had so much fun! I'm now inspired to learn guitar and rock cowboy boots more often.

She Said Yes

Cookies courtesy of Happy Bakes
Let's just say that this past Tuesday, we had a little excitement.  After dating approximately 933 days, Kevin popped the question, and Alex said yes!  Whoooop!

Right after the big moment.  (Sorry about cutting off your head, Kevin.)

I was honored to be a small part of this big day.  But seeing as this isn't exactly my shin-dig, I'm gonna hand the floor over to Alex to fill blog-world in on the details.  Until then, enjoy a few pictures and make sure you congratulate the new fiancés both in person and over every form of social media that you are a member of.

Love you both!

My Valentine's Date

So for my Valentine's date I decided to cheat on Mr. Homework and go out with Mr. Crafty.

Actually, a more accurate story would be that I bought an 11*17 picture frame really cheap at WallyWorld back in August with intentions to get a poster-print picture for it.  Turns out its REALLY hard to find someplace that prints that size...  Thank goodness brown paper grocery bags are a little easier to come by.

And just to set the record straight my real-life Valentine is already responsible for my consuming 1,850 calories of dark chocolate (per my TI-84).  For real.

Don't worry, Mr. Homework, you know I'll always come back to you.

Be My Valentine.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Although there are many people who hate this holiday, here are some reasons I think it is awesome:
1. Cards. Whether you admit it or not, everyone loves getting cards. If you feel that you are being cheated out of your money then it's a great excuse to get crafty and make some of your own. Here are some of the ones I made..

2. Love. Valentine's Day is all about love, which reminds us that God's love is far greater than anything we are capable of and we are so lucky to be loved by Him.
3. Candy. A perfect excuse to eat lots of chocolate and not feel guilty. Sometimes your chocolate even gives you compliments like mine did...
Reason #374 why i love chocolate.

So go tell someone you love them and eat lots of candy.

Oh and P.S. make your boyfriend promise never to get you a singing-gram that serenades you in front of your entire English class. soembarassing. But if he breaks that promise, then tell him to buy you some pretzel m&ms and Hershey kisses. It will make it all better.

The Upcoming "Holiday"

I've always thought that Valentine's Day was a really dumb holiday.  And I still do, but I've just accepted that Valentine's is just one of those "just for fun" holidays.  AKA another ploy to make Americans spend money.  Yeah, there's the story of St. Valentine and all that, but it's all a little bit too irrelevant for my taste.  {Aside-- If we got out of class for Valentine's Day I might be more appreciative...  Like back in high school when Columbus got us TWO days off.  Go Columbus!!}

So here's my attempt at a Valentine's Day card.  Happy V-Day!

Live your heart out

Be yourself. Use your common sense. Roll the windows down and turn the music up. Follow your heart. Write down every idea. Pray without ceasing. Eat dessert before dinner. Dream BIG. Never forget your favorite pillow. Lay under the stars. Turn your cell phone off. Write someone a letter. Show love to everyone. Don't waste a minute. Read every book that interests you. Live like there's no tomorrow. Never give up on God.

You will probably run into revolving doors
You might have to check into your hotel 8 hours behind schedule and
hike 6 flights of stairs with  your luggage. Thank you, Omni hotel.
You will hear amazing speakers like
Andy Stanley, Beth Moore, Francis Chan, Louis Giglio, David Platt, and John Piper
You will meet people from all over the WORLD
You will sing praises to HIM that you hope never end
You will take lots of NOTES, especially during John Piper's talk
You might have to walk a mile to community groups
You will get very little SLEEP
You will laugh a lot
You will probably cry
You will give away every dollar you brought to spread the name of JESUS
